Spice Society chef preparing modern Indian cuisine in the Bondi Road kitchen

Our Story

About Spice Society

Modern Indian food made with care, quality and conviction.

Our Story

Why "Spice Society"?

We started Spice Society because we were tired of the same old Indian restaurant experience. The overdone decor, the inflated prices, the feeling that you could be anywhere. We wanted a place that felt like Bondi — relaxed, genuine, a bit irreverent — but served Indian food that respected the tradition and did not cost a fortune.

The name is simple. Spice is what we do. Society is who we do it with — our team, our regulars, the families who come in every Sunday, the kids who know our staff by name.

We are not here to be fancy. We are here to be good. Good food, good portions, good prices, good people. That is the whole idea.

Food Philosophy

Made with care, served with warmth.

We make our own paneer from scratch. We grind our own spice blends. We fire the tandoor every service. Our gravies cook low and slow because that is the only way they get deep enough. And we keep our prices honest because great food should not be a special occasion.

The technique is traditional. The produce is the best we can find. The portions are generous. The result is Indian food that tastes like someone actually gave a damn about it — at prices that work for families.
